The mayor of the Italian city of Venice, Giorgio Orsoni, has resigned amid a wider investigation into alleged corruption over new flood barriers.
Mr Orsoni stepped down a day after being released from house arrest under a plea bargain, which saw him agreeing to a four-month sentence.
The term, which he is unlikely to serve in prison, requires court approval.
More than 30 people were arrested in the investigation into an alleged slush fund to bribe officials.
