At least 10 people have been killed in a shooting at Umpqua Community College in the US state of Oregon, US media report.
A local fire department confirmed the shooting on Twitter and advised people to stay away from the area.
The attacker was reportedly detained after the shooting at the 3,000-student school.
US media reports that at least 20 people have been wounded.
The college is located in Roseburg, Oregon, a rural area about 175 miles (281 km) south of Portland.
Authorities were first called to the scene about 10:30 local time (18:30 BST).
Police told CNN the attacker has been taken into custody.
Speaking on CNN, Douglas County Fire Marshall Ray Shoufler said there were “multiple patients in multiple classrooms” and that 11 people had been transported to a local hospital, two of which died at the hospital.
Mr Shoufler said “multiple” people are deceased but did not have a specific number.
He said they do not know the gender of the attacker but that he or she had been “neutralised.”
Agents from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are on their way to Roseburg.
